This is an accurate explanation of what I considered to be the reason for the way in which Michael Richards chose to handle the situation of being heckled at the comedy club.

Assignment three consisted of viewing a YouTube clip of celebrity Michael Richards’ tirade during his performance at a comedy club.  His performance was laced with racial slurs, verbally attacking hecklers. The question posed was whether or not it was possible that his choice to rattle off a list of racial slurs could be without racial intent or without any deep-seeded prejudiced? However, given the remarks made and the propensity to continue the disgusting tirade after being told that it was uncalled for, shows that that intent was there. I only question if he would have responded in the same way to a heckler that was white? Would there have been racial slurs said as well? Examining this video is only one of many instances where I have seen celebrities use hurtful language towards people of color and then have to do damage control by releasing a forced apology. My hope is that as times goes on people will avoid unnecessary controversies, getting to the root of what makes them say or feel the urge to say prejudice things and then correct it.
