This drawing illustrates an argument between my younger sister and my Mom. My sister said “This is an unhappy family to me. I want another family!” and in response, Mom pushed her out the front door and told her to find one. I was no stranger to my Mom’s anger, but I hadn’t seen it directed at anyone else before, and I Would Not Stand for it. Knowing full well the futility of my actions, I started yelling at my Mom for the first time. I said that what she had done was wrong and that she wasn’t being a good Mother. I believe this illustrates an innate sense of right and wrong, and a refusal to stand by if something was happening that I deemed unjust or unfair. While I’m sure the espoused American values of Justice and Fairness had something to do with this, I like to think that this value is innate to my character.
