My partner and I agreed that schoolteachers, dancers, babysitters, makeup artists, and system engineers had feminine connotations, and that taxi drivers, chefs, and mechanics had masculine associations. My mental image of a doctor, architect, and designer  were male, while my partner responded female. He responded male for lawyers and pilots, while I responded female.

I believe when I visualized a pilot, I was thinking of a military pilot, which informed my response because of size limitations. My partner may have been thinking of an airline pilot, however. I also posit that some of our similar responses stemmed from widespread gender stereotypes. For instance, I believe that we both thought of a female school-teacher and babysitter because women are generally considered more trustworthy and safe, stemming from automatic associations with children and maternity. I believe we gave the same answer for taxi drivers because we assume that a woman driving a taxi would be exposing herself to the threat of being physically overpowered and/ or sexually assaulted.
