Historic Accessibility Through Three-Dimensional Scanning and Printing

Due to lack of funding, house museums, in general, cannot afford to develop modern educational programming for people with disabilities.  Aside from the lack of funding for programming is the lack of funding for bringing these properties in line with the American Disabilities Act. Finally, there is the lack of funding for a trained technologist (or the like) to set up and operate any new equipment to aid disabled individuals.  Although the initial cost is going to be high, an investment in three-dimensional (3-D) scanning and printing capabilities will ultimately aid both the public and the museum.  We are going to look at a hypothetical house museum, “Tristdale,” as an ideal institution with resources available to demonstrate those programs and renovations.
