At the beginning of this course, I predicted that I would struggle with the organization of an online course and I was correct. The lack of capabilities to have an in person course has negatively impacted my ability as a student. Social Psychology is a course that I feel comes somewhat naturally due to my natural tendency to analyze people’s behaviors, but the organization of the online course has caused my interest in future courses to subside. I learned a great deal from this course and enjoyed the thought provoking assignments. I still think psychology courses are of an utmost importance in education just as I did at the beginning of the course. I have gained insights as well as evolved prior opinions from before this course regarding social norms, structures, and practices. I feel as though I have kept the course objectives in mind throughout the semester and they have contributed to my everyday thoughts and questions about life.

My favorite three things we have discussed in this class are blog 2, blog 7, and the takeaway for assignment 4. Blog 2 discusses self efficacy and that has been something I have always struggled with. I have always had trouble finding meaning and fulfillment from my everyday tasks and if I had known ten years ago that I could read about my problems and even take a test on it I would have jumped on that opportunity. Blog 7 is similar to blog 2 in the sense that it is testing something about us that many people do not even know can be tested. The responses were very accurate so it gave insight as to what an individual is capable of in regards to the way they think and act. The takeaway for assignment 4 was important to me because I thought a lot about my relationship. I saw a lot of myself and her in that test and it made me realize that no one is one hundred percent unique and that we can actually analyze ourselves from an objective point of view. All of those that I’ve named could be very helpful to many people if they were more commonly presented to people. Blog 2 relates directly to a paper I am currently writing on why psychology should be included in schools as a core subject. I believe that if every student has the opportunity to understand the human mind and it’s potential, our entire planet’s self efficacy score would go up.

Men upset women through manipulation of their emotion. A man would act as though he has unique feelings towards a woman in order to have sex. The woman may do the opposite, acting as though she is sexually promiscuous in order to build an emotionally involved relationship. Both men and women get jealous during emotionally or sexually involved relationships. Both men and women, but mostly men, gets feelings of jealousy and create conflict post-relationship. These stereotypes have become ingrained into our culture especially through entertainment. This is the reason women are widely considered more emotionally intelligent and mature.

Self regulation and emotional intelligence go hand in hand. Emotional intelligence is aided by self regulation. Self regulation consists of keeping disruptive emptions under control as well as being transparent and adaptable. To be transparent and adaptable one must maintain a degree of integrity while being able to flexibly overcome obstacles. One can improve self regulation by improving their attitude, which will aid EQ overall.

It has always been obvious to me that women feel societally pressured to look as presentable as possible. This presentation was very informative about the specific ways that our country has shaped our view of women. Advertising has manipulated our image of women by literally distorting reality with photoshop, makeup, and surgery. The concept of a natural appearance has shifted to the point that girls as young as pre-teenagers are becoming dangerously self conscious of what they look like. Eating disorders and general body dysmorphia rates in women have never been higher, and it is not being slowed down. I have never seen it as a high priority on the social agenda because it is mainly agreed upon by most people, but I now think it should be given more attention. It is not different than any other problem caused by social pressure, therefore it should be given an equal amount of attention.

These 5 ads are the most common ways that the mass media portrays women. They emphasize women caring for their hair, their makeup, and their weight, as well as focusing on traits such as nice lips, a narrow nose, and the best clothes.

For exam 2, I am going to employ the same studying tactics as exam 1. I did better than I had expected which is always a pleasant surprise. I had a vague grasp of the majority of the concepts studied for exam 1 from high school, so studying felt much easier. I also have an knack for reading people’s facial expressions to decipher their thoughts emotions, so I always feel as though I know how different people would react in different situations through personal experience on top of readings. My largest weakness was vocabulary. Many words in our language sound alike or mean similar things so it isn’t always easy for me to remember what means what, so I am going to focus on individual keywords more in depth for exam 2.

I am in no way nor have I ever been a good student, though I have always been in honors/AP courses, I was in a specialty program in high school, and my GPA never suffered. My problems as a student do not stem from my lack of ambition, my intelligence, nor my socio-economic situation. All of the things I struggle with as a student stem from my attention deficit disorder diagnoses when I was a kid.
My struggles with ADD have been a burden on me throughout my whole life and have withered my esteem as a student. I have had to constantly persevere through self-doubt and failure, and I have not changed a lot over the years. I have always made a joke out of my barely scraping by attitude, and everyone who has known me associates that with me. I was never very interested in high school courses, though that was not the cause of my struggle, I think that if I can dive headfirst into a career that I love, there will be nothing that can stand in my way.
I was not surprised at all to find that I scored a 2.6/4 when the average is 2.9/4. I have never given myself more credit than anyone else, rather I do typically consider myself to be a very able-bodied person, but in no way are my abilities significantly below average.

This image portrays the factors that comprise self efficacy. I chose this because it shows how there’s never one factor that defines a person’s ability. I relate to this because I always feel attached to the opinions people carry about mistakes I have made, and I would like more people to feel as though they are comprised of so much more than they believe.

- This image is very representative of how our minds use the representativeness heuristic to decide which person in the picture is the felon. Martha Stewart, the woman with the sweater on, is the convicted felon and served multiple years in jail. Snoop Dogg, the man on the left, could be misjudged due to our quick reaction to place individuals in groups.
The course objectives will be quite useful when we are thinking about these topics because we have specific discussions already in mind when reading the text. When we already have these discussions in our minds before we read the text, we will gradually be able to fill in the blanks of the discussion. This helps us connect topics and grasp different concepts.
I am going to keep the course objectives in mind as I read the text as well as reflect my readings into my everyday life. I am very interested in psychology, especially the real-world application of psychological strategies in social situations with my friends. I hope that while learning about how people interact with one another I can alter the way I act in my own life, not only to better grasp the ideas of how people interact but be more aware of my own behavior.
Because I feel drawn to psychology, I know that I love to consider these course topics in my everyday life, and that has made this subject of academia come easier to me. I like to think that instead of studying for hours, the course material just needs to be pondered every once in a while and it will click in my mind. I am going to try extra hard, however, because I am not a good online student.
