How well do you feel you’ve achieved the course objectives (refer to the course syllabus)? How have your attitudes about Cross-Cultural Psychology changed during the course? What would you do differently if you took the class again? Discuss one way that you’ve grown academically over the last few months. Finally, discuss one skill that you gained from this course that you can utilize in your professional life.

I feel that I obtained the goal set forth by the course objectives. In the beginning, I thought that the class would just tell me how people feel about others but then it went deeper. The understanding of how the different cultures associate and what social influences it has on the world was a big eye-opener for me, sure we know people grow up differently but it is the way in which it molds perceptions that is the reason why we have cultural differences when most cultures participate in the same activities. If I took the class again I would try and focus more on the archive items activities because I feel the personal comparison would have helped me grasp more if I used the better situation to apply instead of something surface level. I feel that I gained the skill to understand the view of someone from a different culture, for instance, if someone is racist to me I feel this class has allowed for it not to anger me because understanding the cultural differences that would have been put in front of said people would leave me to understand that it is not all their fault.

The Importance of Psychology - Owlcation
I chose this because I feel that by taking this course I have gained more understanding of the machine that is culture and a deeper meaning to the gears that make culture turn. Then those different factors come in different shapes sizes and colors.

For your eighth blog entry, titled Blog 8, read the attached article Emotion Perception Across Cultures. For your blog, discuss the occasions in which you have noticed how people from different cultures express themselves. Were their behaviors similar or different from your expectations? Why or why not? Can the concept of universality and cultural display rules help explain some of your experiences?

I am African American and most of the people I and around are either African American or from the same area I am from, so there is not much difference except for personality. I have seen the Chinese people get angry because of dishonor to the family while it is not this way for us in America. Their behavior is expected because of how they where depicted in movies growing up. Yes both of them can explain my expression.

For your seventh blog entry, titled Blog 7, read the attached article, “Tale As Old As Time.”

I feel that fairy tales can reflect shared cultural norms and values. Fairy tales are meant to inspire children, they see the main character overcome some big problem to reach their happy ending, for I as it kid it showed me that any ending is possible that you want and it may be messy but it’s worth the love it will bring in the end. I loved Harry Potter as a kid, I read all the books in 7th grade, and seeing his character develop made me feel as if I was living the story and made me feel like anything is possible. Then those main characters can also teach how people are supposed to work together to get things done. Thereby promoting inclusive behavior.

For your sixth blog entry, titled Blog 6, review the Autonomy section in the Culture and Personality chapter, specifically, Self-Determination Theory (SDT). Discuss how you satisfy the needs for autonomy, competence, and relatedness academically. I am attaching Ryan & Deci’s (2000) journal article in order to provide you with more in-depth information about each of these psychological needs.

Autonomy is the easiest for me because I feel that I work better when I oversee my time and the way that I do this is by having particular days that are set for work so that I see create and feel the balance between school and life. Competence is satisfied when I am able to apply a topic that has been learned. Then I can study with certain friends that also do online school so that we can get that school feels, we all know how easy it is to get distracted when you are not in the classroom so that helps with keeping up on work at times.

Use the following questions in your assessment:

Which statements do you think are associated with the dimension of ‘independent construal of self”? For example, you will say numbers 2, 4, and 6 are associated with… I felt that the statements in this category of independent construal of self would be 1,4,5,6,9,10.

Which statements do you think are associated with the dimension of ‘interdependent construal of self”? For example, you will say numbers 3, 5, and 7 are associated with… I felt that the statements in this category of the interdependent construal of self would be 2,3,7,8.

Based on your answers to the aforementioned questions, do you think you are more independent or more interdependent? I am more Independent.

Describe the English proverbs (short expressions of popular wisdom) which reflect either “independent” or “interdependent” construal of self. For example:

Independent self – You can do anything you put your mind to, do your best

Interdependent self – Team work is key,

Which was easier for you to think of: the proverbs that reflect “independent self” or “interdependent self”? Can you think of any reasons for your tendency? I feel that it was easier to think of the independent because my mind is more so focused on those type of trait in myself

I learned from viewing my test that I need to pay more attention to detail at times for instance I knew the answer for question 42 on my test but answered incorrectly by not reading properly. I crammed my review into a three-day period which was not too bad, but I should start earlier, I had to think very hard on certain questions. I feel that it will remind me to slow down and make sure I am answering the question I need to and then also for me to put more time into studying so that the information is easier for me to remember when the time comes to test. Then I also started using flashcards more to remember key vocabulary from the chapters.

My responses for all the categories resulted in scores that put me in the low column, N=23, E=28 , O=39, A=25, and C=29. I feel that some of the tests were accurate while I received that very general score on some others. The text says that in the Neuroticism section I feel I am consistent because I don’t tend to overstress, but I stress enough to keep myself on track which keeps me secure in whatever position I am in, I do this by juggling school and working full time supporting my household, at moments things seem to pile up but I kind of have it will unfold as it should kind of attitude and it does. That example also kind of describes my openness and I am down to earth, in this I feel I can be inconsistent, and it is because it depends on who and what type of person I am dealing with. For example, I take advice from my cousin better than my brother because he has been there for me more in my life, they can literally say the same thing and somehow the advice sounds better from my cousin. Then I am very introverted and prefer close friends for example if one puts me in public (I usually don’t go out for one) I will leave early so I’m consistent in small knit groups and staying alone. I am also consistent in agreeableness as to say I feel like when I have my opinion, even though others can be correct it will be more correct, and I would rather not be upset but I even tell my sister that I love her but I don’t like her and would prefer to not be around her. Conscientiousness I say I am a little inconsistent I prefer to plan when I feel like it is needed and I am careless on things I chose to be careless about, for an instant, I know that I should clean up more often than I do and I get upset when the house is dirty after an extended period of time but when I actually take it upon myself to clean it gets done.

I chose this image because I felt that compared with the test that these are the words that people would use to describe me that I agree with. So these would be the most consistent parts of my personality.

My expectations for the course are very simple I just want to be led into a different perspective of why it is people function mentally the way we do and I felt this class would be perfect and from the course objective, I say it is. I intend to take notes on the readings in a more in tune way, note-taking has been a problem of mine, taking notes that actually are filled with content that is. Authoritarian parenting- I chose this image because the person in the show ironically says that, (south park is the show), but the children are so bad and their parents have no control of them and this style in the show is what made the kids go down the slopes and cause an avalanche.
