Old Dominion University offers its students a variety of majors to study, whether it may be online or in person. As a cybersecurity major, I see that there are some major that Odu offers that relates to cybersecurity, and those are computer science, criminal justice, information technology, and computer engineering. These majors are in a way part of cybersecurity, for example, Computer science is a broad field that involves the study of computing and computers in this instance cybersecurity can be considered a new subfield of computer science because cybersecurity specialists require a deep understanding of computers and networks to analyze and prevent any data breaches and attacks and to add to that cybersecurity deals with computers and so does computer science. The next one is criminal justice, although it may not deal with computers directly criminal justice is the delivery of justice to those who have committed crimes. Just like criminal justice, the main idea of cybersecurity is the protection of computer systems and networks from information disclosure, theft of or damage to software, hardware, or electronic data, as well as from the disruption of services. The next one on the list is information technology, it is the study or use of systems for storing, retrieving, and spending information. Although cybersecurity deals with protecting data from internet hacks and hacker’s information technology is the overarching process that covers how company data is handled daily, and both are in the business of protecting people from cybercriminals. The last one is computer engineering, which is at the heart of many cybersecurity organizations. Computer engineering is a branch of engineering that integrates several fields of computer science and electronic engineering required to develop computer hardware and software. On top of that, both cybersecurity specialists and computer engineers protect sensitive data against threats by applying their skills.
