Dream Job

Hi, my name is Caleb Cartwright and my dream job is one day in a perfect world i will become a Physician Assistant or Physical Therapist. So a little bit about what they do would include, Diagnosing and treating illnesses, Ordering and interpreting tests, Prescribing medication, Assisting in surgery, educate patients, and make rounds.

PAs work with physicians to provide medical care and guidance to patients. They are often supervised by MDs, who oversee the PA’s work while typically not being in the same room during patient treatment. PAs must pass a national certification exam, obtain a state license, and complete continuing medical education to maintain national certification. PAs typically need a foundation in medical knowledge, good communication skills, critical thinking skills, empathy, work well as a team, the ability to perform physical examinations, diagnose problems, and develop treatment plans.

This is the job posting i picked for the assignment.

Job Posting Number 2: Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner
Identify the salary range: Up to $130,000
How much experience would be required to apply for that job, what degrees, certifications or training is required? Master’s to Doctoral Degree. Graduate of AMA accredited physician assistant program, Current VA state license, Certified by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants, AANP, ANCC, or NCCPA board-certification, and Current CPR certification
What skills are and tasks are involved in performing the job you have found?
Specialize in delivering advanced wound care to patients, Medical knowledge, strong communication skills, compassion and empathy, a focus on patient care, and the ability to solve problems and work well under pressure. There was only a few specified skills and tasks so i added some.

Here is what i said for PT.2 of the assignment:

Based on the skills and abilities you’d have to have, no it’s not what i had in mind for my dream job especially for PT. For PA it’s similar to what i had in mind. The knowledge/schooling is what i had in mind for both PT and PA, a long process. No i really didn’t find my dream job. For PT i really didn’t find anything for the sports side of it, which is what i’d want to get in to. For PA, because i don’t really know what i want to specialize in yet, it makes it harder for me to pick out the differences and similarities. For PT i guess it really depends on what area you work in like if you work with joints. Some similarities would be the exercises depending on the part of the body. The differences would be age and area of injury or surgery of patients you work on.

From the 3 job postings I found I’d pick the second one, the Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner. Some skills i already have are strong communication skills, being compassionate and empathetic, and i know how to solve problems with the right advice and training and with the right people behind me. I am still building on the medical knowledge aspect of it and working under pressure but i’m sure i’d improve with those 2 with the right people helping along and teaching me. I still need more experience with delivering advanced wound care to patients and patient care in general. Some options to learn the skills i need could be working or volunteering under a professional that has lots of experience in the field. It’s really just learning from your peers and getting the actual real life experience under your belt so you can still perfect those skills.
