Escritura 1: La Descripción

This was really our opening assignment that helped set the pace for everything else in the course. Frankly, it’s not my best work, as I was shaking off the rust from a long winter break, but I was able to describe the photo well. I love this picture of my brother and his dogs- it’s from Christmas 2022.

Escritura 2: La Narración

This was an assignment about telling a story, fictional or otherwise, using a picture and dialogue. I wrote a semi-fictionalized version of my brother’s work shift at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse in Washington DC. I learned about dialogue in Spanish as well as story pacing and slang, so this was definitely a useful assignment for me.

Escritura 3: El Artículo

This was by far the most important assignment in the class for me, as I work for a newspaper and I plan on working for many more in the future. It was difficult doing research in Spanish, but it was great practice. I wrote about the Mexican presidential election, and the current political situation in Mexico.

Escritura 4: La Carta de Recomendación

An assignment about writing a letter of recommendation for someone you know. I picked my boss at the newspaper, Justice Menzel, and spoke about his actual job application to the Library of Congress. I learned a lot about formal word choice from this assignment, as well as formal grammar and structure.

Escritura 5: Blog de Refutación

This assignment was quite similar to the news article assignment for me, so it wasn’t particularly hard. However, the course material for this unit was quite difficult for me, so an easier written assignment helped balance it out. We wrote about a preselected topic using research and carefully thought out points. It was more good practice for me; I wrote about the impacts of social media.
