Journal Entry #7

This meme is a reflection of the devastation that a ransomware attack has on many businesses. Ransomware’s pervasiveness is a reflection of the failures of both email and SMS as platforms where security is entirely dependent on the end user not to click links.

I made this meme to reflect the fact that many websites have not been updated to include accessible and responsive web design. The lack of responsive features means that a lot of times when end users are using mobile devices and go to websites, they may perform badly or look much more suspicious than their desktop versions. This can lead end users to more easily trust websites that are actually malicious or fail to trust legitimate websites.

This is a reference to one of the anecdotal examples my professor paced in the PowerPoint slides for this module. In that example, a hospital implemented a security device that was rapidly circumvented by rushed physicians covering the device with a plastic cup. This failure reflects that human centric product design is critical to ensuring security. The meme format was selected because all the meeting attendants look thoroughly unhappy at attending and there is a presentation, much like modern corporate lessons learned sessions.
