After watching the video, I believe there is a lot of media can and has done to misconstrue the public’s view on cybersecurity. First, most media portray hacking and cybersecurity as a quick and easy task if you know what to type, when completing these process actually takes hours or even weeks. Both securing a computer and hacking into computers are long and hard processes that take a great number of problem-solving skills. It also shows some practices that are not safe like when the security guy plugged the random computer straight into an ethernet connection in their main room. Some of the shows also portray some of the equipment and things hackers can do as being too advanced. For example, being able to have a wireless device guess a 12-character password easily or being able to track a car because you tapped into its electronics. In contrast some of the shows were not that far off from real life or were even perfectly accurate. Some of the shows were able to use accurate terminology and normal processes to complete certain tasks. These types of shows that use real terminology and show the real way to fix things show how cybersecurity and hacking are done and can maybe even help people make better decisions on their cybersecurity as an individual.
