What is the overlap between criminal justice and cybercrime? How does this overlap relate to the other disciplines discussed in this class?

There is absolutely an overlap between these two sectors because now criminal justice has to take into account the effect of cybercrime with the sheer number of occurrences and victims annually globally. Attempts to defraud a business or person happen almost every day at an alarming rate and the financial cost of the damages is rising at an alarming rate every year. As of this year, it is predicted that 2,200 cyberattacks occur this year and it is predicted to cause up to 8 trillion dollars in damages worldwide. On average, most data breaches can cause up to 9 million dollars worth of damage. These are outrageously high numbers that show just how vulnerable and susceptible we are to attacks. Where we see the overlap is that Criminal Justice takes the time to implement and study how these attacks happen and ways that we can prevent future attacks from a legal standpoint.
We also see this overlap with our infrastructure disciplines as well, because our public transportation, health, and power systems all utilize technology and use systems on a network to operate more efficiently. Because of this, they can be also susceptible to an attack and one to a major critical infrastructure such as our public health system would cause way more than just financial damages but has the potential to cause harm to human life as well.
Awareness is key, you cannot stop every attack, but staying up-to-date on trends and ways that hackers manipulate systems is a huge way to prevent future attacks.
