Interpretive, Interpersonal, and Presentational Modes of Communication

Exploring Culture

During this course I have learned the basic of understanding a fluent spanish speaker. We have done several assignments as far as listening, speaking, and writing. I feel more confident and can understand better when being spoken to in spanish.

The spanish book “Aventuras” has helped me a lot on understanding the different conjugations, past-tense, present-tense, etc. Also, I use my textbook to help me with the different verbs, places, times, and numbers. This book helps me get through my homework. I have gotten a lot better with my pronunciations of words! VHL helps me prep for the topic we talk about in class, and if i have any trouble it gives the practice I need to grow. Lastly. the week class zoom and break out room discussion helps me get a clearer understanding.

Engaging in Communities

I engaged in the Spanish community by going to different spanish restaurants! This is really important to me because I get to taste the different types of food, see how different their culture is, and try to learn different words. Also, I also love to support business!

I usually try to go to a spanish restaurant once a week. This helps me practice speaking spanish, learning the culture, and getting an understanding on the language.

Interpersonal Communication

I have completed a lot assignment in this course. We have completed a lot of assignments such as discussion boards, quizzes, exam, homework assignments, lecturas, and writing. In all the assignment we took what we learned in class and put it into our assignment.

In the discussion boards we introduced ourselves, listed our classes, and completed a family tree. We have has discussions with our partners in break out rooms. We have read pages in our textbook and answered questions. I have also completed assignments where I had to listen and rewrite what I have heard. Lastly, I did writings that mentions my classes, locations, family members, and different adjectives. I improved each time by looking at the mistake i made the first time and improving on them. I overcame my challenges by rereading my work and following directons better. I excel at my writing, reading, and listening because I would practice them by doing them multiple times. I learned to take my time and follow directions careful. Also, if i became overwhelmed I would take a little break and go back to it! Most importantly I wrote a lot of note to help me fix the different things i was struggling in.

Presentational Speaking

Over the span of this spanish course, I have participated in two conversations! One was with another classmate, and the other was with the teacher.

The first conversation speaking assignment was with another classmate, and we did it on a zoom recording. The conversation including us introducing ourself, where we are from, what we study in school, where we go to school, how many classes we take, what classes we take, and which one is our favorite one. The second conversation was with my teacher! We introduced ourself, introduced my family members, and the different qualities they have. The challenging part was remembering the different adjectives and conjugations. Also, going into the conversation not knowing what would be asked was challenging too. I have grown a lot of confidence when it comes to have different conversations. The thing I will do different next time is remembering the verbs, conjugations, and adjectives.

Presentational Writing

In spanish 101, we have written two different writings. The first one I introduced myself, my major, where i go to school, my classes, and the thing I like and dislike. The second writing was about my family. I discussed my family member names, and some of there great qualities.

From the first writing assignment to the second assignment I has less errors on them. It became easier to put sentences together, and they flowed together better. I overcame the difficulties by coming up with separate sentences and triple checking my work. Also, using the details given during class time and break out times. I have excel into being able to write more in spanish. I could do better next time by just rereading my work and making sure it all make sense together.

Interpretive Listening

I have completed a couple of homework assignment that included listening to answer questions, write what you have heard. I have completed four “competencia cultural”.

I overcome the difficultly by listening multiple time then answering the question one by one. The challenging thing is how fast they talk. The most interesting thing was the different things they was talking about in the spanish culture. The takeaway was waiting to see your grade to see if you were comprehending. Yes, i have grown and can understand the conversations more.

Interpretive Reading

I have read through my textbook to comprehend what we discuss each class. I have done four activities called Lectura”.

It was a little challenging because you have to look all over the page. I overcome the challenge by taking breaks and coming back to it. The most interesting was knowing I was capable to complete the assignment. The takeaway was having to read everything and taking your time to get all the information needed. I have grown with these assignment by paying close attention to every word in the reading.
