Describe three ways that computers have made the world safer and less safe
With society becoming more and more technologically advanced, the advancement and use of computers is becoming more and more common and necessary. While computers have certainly provided us with many benefits, and have made life easier overall, there are also risks and vulnerabilities associated with them. Still, computers have made the world safe in several different ways. Computers allow for users to access search engines like Google, where the entire world can seemingly be accessed at an individuals fingertips. Google allows for almost unlimited access to knowledge and data, which can help people learn and improve on almost any area they wish. For example, a family looking to purchase a property could log onto their computer and easily look up the crime rate of a prospective residential area. Computers and social media platforms also allow for the faster spread of news such as local, national, and world affairs, as well as natural disasters or amber alerts and other forms of crime. Social media can also allow us to easily communicate with family and loved ones by message, video, or voice. During the Covid-19 pandemic, many schools and colleges were forced to switch to online classes, which were taught from computers. Being able to take classes online ensured that everyone could stay home and quarantine, and kept students and faculty safe from catching or spreading the virus.
With all the good things that computers provide us, they can also have negative impacts on people. For example, some people may see others on social media and have a distorted view of life that could lead to envy and depression. Since most people just post the highlights of their lives on social media, it can have negative effects on some individuals mental health. Other things such as computer games, online casinos, and social media applications can become extremely addicting, which can lead to negative health effects, relationships, and other consequences. Social media and other fake news websites can also include misinformation, which can confuse and distort the truth Another negative aspect of computers is the fact that they can be hacked, and since we rely on them so heavily, it can result it a loss of personal and private information and data. While computers have changed the way humans live their everyday lives for the better, it’s important that users keep themselves safe online, and remember that too much of something can lead to consequences.
