Old Dominion University offers over 90 majors. Several majors relate to cybersecurity. The four majors I chose to relate to cybersecurity are Criminal Justice, Computer Engineering, Database Administration, and E-Business and E-Commerce.

Let us begin with Criminal Justice. Criminal Justice is the study of laws reflecting criminal behavior. When you major in Criminal Justice, you have to take fundamental classes of cybersecurity. In the Criminal Justice field, you may deal with cases that involve unethical hacking, stealing, or leaking vital information. This is where it relates to cybersecurity.

The next major is Computer Engineering. Computer Engineers manage and create programs. This major is obviously related to cybersecurity by computer hardware and software. Cybersecurity is needed in Computer Engineering to build and secure information systems.

This brings us to our third major, Database Administration. Database Administrators manage database access, optimize database security, install and maintain servers, as well as many other responsibilities. Database Administration relates to cybersecurity because cybersecurity is the foundation for this major. You must have cybersecurity knowledge in order to become a Database Administrator.

The final major in E-Business and E-Commerce. E-Business and E-Commerce is the buying and selling of goods through the internet. An example would be Amazon. E-Business and E-Commerce relate to cybersecurity because there needs to be the security of the buyer’s personal information. Cybersecurity comes into play because multiple measures would be taken from the cybersecurity view in order to protect, secure, and alert the consumer if anything were to occur.

In conclusion, these four majors all depend on cybersecurity as they help protect whether it is in the initial stages of designing the program, making sure the consumer’s information is secure when visiting and paying on a website, or protecting it if they choose to save their financial and personal information on the database, and finally criminal justice should if there is a need to prosecute. All of these majors: Computer Engineering, Database Administration, E-Commerce, and Criminal Justice all work hand-in-hand with Cybersecurity.
