I chose this image for my progress because I didn’t exactly get the scores I wanted in the exams. However, I feel like experiences and the learning is much more important to me than that grade.

I think my strengths for this course is that I have an expansive background on Statistics. I took AP Statistics in high school and Intro to Statistics in my sophomore year of college. Due to this, I am mostly familiar with the terms and concepts and I use them to my advantage. Additionally, I think that I am also quick to understand the formulas and their functions. Some students get a little bit terrified of the Greek symbols in the formulas and they tend to get disheartened. Conversely, I definitely work harder if they are unfamiliar and find connections between the formulas, what they’re used for, and why they’re important.

In this course, my strength is also my weakness. Since I know that I am already familiar with some of the concepts, I tend to underestimate the new chapters. I think that I will get it quickly because I understood the past chapters so when the quiz/exam comes, I have difficulties trying to figure those chapters out. I would say that I not be overconfident when it comes to new chapters and do not underestimate new concepts. Just because I did well in the past few without requiring a lot of work, doesn’t mean that I’ll do the same for this one.

In my future courses, I would definitely put in more work and manage my time better. My experiences from this course taught me that because you have full control of your time because it is an online class, does not mean that you get to spend it lavishly. One must plan their time well and use it wisely because running out of time is quite an easy thing to do.

Education-wise, the things I have learned from this course will definitely help me in my future research project plans. I have learned a lot of different statistical tests and which one is right for the study I’m conducting. Experience-wise, I think that the structure of the assignment deadlines is parallel to the structure of project deadlines in the professional world. You must know how to manage your time well because it is so easy to get behind of all the assignments piling up.

My advice to future PSYC 317 students:

  1. Do not be discouraged by the number of formulas you’re going to learn in this course. It might seem hard to fully understand at first but just sit down and read, it will all be crystal clear to you. Also, do not just memorize the formulas, try to understand them by heart so you can apply them and use them correctly.
  2. Manage your time well. Do not wait until the last minute. Do not think that a 10% per day late is worth it because in the long run, you would see that it could definitely hurt your grade. Schedule a day in a week where you will do the work that might be due Friday.
