{"id":615,"date":"2019-03-25T20:06:29","date_gmt":"2019-03-25T20:06:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.wp.odu.edu\/careerpathways\/?page_id=615"},"modified":"2020-05-18T19:29:58","modified_gmt":"2020-05-18T19:29:58","slug":"about","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.wp.odu.edu\/careerpathways\/","title":{"rendered":"About"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4><strong>Why does ODU offer Career Pathways?<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>In a series of survey started in 2014, ODU graduate students identified career exploration and career planning as their top professional development needs.<\/p>\n<p>In the most recent survey conducted in Spring 2018,<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A third of students were concerned about work or career prospects<\/li>\n<li>Just over half felt prepared for their chosen career path<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The ODU Career Pathways program is designed to fill graduate students&#8217; career and professional development needs, preparing you for successful transition into thriving careers.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>How can the Career Pathways program help me?<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Career Pathways offers two professional development programs and associated certificates:<\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-subtle-light-gray-background-color has-fixed-layout has-background\"><thead><tr><th class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\"><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-green-cyan-color\">Preparing Future Faculty (PFP)<\/span><\/th><th class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\"><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-cyan-blue-color\">Preparing Future Professionals (PFF)<\/span><\/th><\/tr><\/thead><tbody><tr><td class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\"><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-green-cyan-color\">Designed for graduate students interested in an academic career. You can earn the PFF Certificate by:<br>(1) completing a mentored teaching experience<br>(2) creating a CV<br>(3) attending PFF and other professional development events<br>(4) producing an ePortfolio to document and highlight their professional development and growth.<\/span><\/td><td class=\"has-text-align-left\" data-align=\"left\"><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-cyan-blue-color\">Designed for graduate students interested in a non-academic career such as in industry, non-profit\/non-governmental organizations, or government agencies. You can earn the PFP Certificate by:<br>(1) developing an individual development plan<br>(2) creating a resume<br>(3) attending professional development events or completing professional development activities<br>(4) producing an ePortfolio to document and highlight their professional development and growth.<\/span><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-layout-1 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>The Career Pathways program is free, and is open to all ODU graduate students. Workshops are offered on campus and can be accessed via web conferencing.
