Journal Entry Five

I think that the motive that makes the most sense is having multiple reasons. This I because anyone can have a reason to do anything, so unless all of a hacker’s reasons are random, I think that multiple reasons make the most sense as a motive. The second most reasonable motive is for money. While it is morally wrong, some people might need to get out of a financial struggle, and this is the easy way out. While revenge is also morally wrong, I think this is the third move reasonable motive for getting revenge online makes it harder to track down who did it. A hacker could mess with someone and be completely anonymous to the victim. The fourth most reasonable motive is political. This motive is the most annoying to deal with since it has a lower area of focus. Hackers could be from different countries than their victims which makes tracking them down dangerous and difficult. This motive is number four because I don’t see what hacking into high-level security does for someone. Yes, there is important information but what is a hacker going to do with it? This brings me to my next point; recognition is the fifth most reasonable motive. I don’t know what kind of positive recognition a hacker could get from being good at what they do unless it is their job. The sixth most reasonable motive is entertainment. I can understand being interested in a topic and having a passion for it. But messing with people should not become a hobby. The last most reasonable motive is boredom, there are so much better things to do than to hack something. These are my most to least reasonable motives.
