An area of least appeal to me would be the specializations within the “Oversee and Govern” category. I am more interested in the more hands-on technical work(at least within my early career) in order to accrue the experience needed to transition to other roles. While I would likely enjoy any one of the roles within this category in my later career, it is relatively impossible to find a job within that category fresh out of college.
I currently find the most appeal within the “Investigation” and “Protect and Defend” categories. Being within digital forensics or incident response would be captivating and I’d be able to learn a lot. Ideally I wish to land an SOC job when I graduate. To do this I intend to obtain my Sec+ and the GIAC Certified Incident Response Handler(GCIH). I also wish to gain more experience with SIEM’s such as Splunk, as well as IDS/IPS tools. I think my ideal job down the line would be within the blue team doing incident response or consulting for defense analysis.
