Out of the 11 listed illegal actions users unknowingly do online, I believe that these five are the worst.
Sharing Passwords, Addresses, or Photos of others:
Sharing the passwords, addresses, photos, or any other private information of another online without explicit permission on the list because the leaking of passwords may lead to cyberattacks targeted towards the doxxed person, leaked addresses can tell people online the location of someone’s home without consent, and sharing photos of others is just morally wrong.
Collecting Information about Children:
Collecting information on children under the age of 13 is illegal under the Children’s Online Protection Act. Aside from being illegal, it is highly immoral to collect information about children in itself. The actions that can be performed with information about children can sometimes be prevented by denying the information in the first place.
Bullying and Trolling:
I chose bullying and trolling because, as with some of the others, it has direct negative impacts on the victim(s). Bullying victims are often scarred for life after their encounters with bullies and can suffer a range of consequences even years after the behavior has subsided.
Faking your Identity Online:
Identity fraud is illegal firstly, however it also has a very direct victim in cases where one is impersonated for financial gain or public embarrassment purposes. Identity fraud can leave victims with severe negative financial and emotional consequences.
Recording a VoIP call without consent:
Recording someone else’s VoIP call without consent is a huge breach of privacy, and also illegal. This is another example that has direct victims, as the parties that had their privacy infringed upon unknowingly could have shared PII, intellectual secrets, or plain embarrassing information.
