Philosophy of Music Education

My Education Philosophy

The purpose of music education is to spread and share a love for music. Music teachers, elementary specifically, are often the first to introduce music into a child’s life! It is extremely important for a teacher to spark joy and build a student’s love for music. They exist to help grow students’ appreciation for music and inspire students.

The role of the student in music educationis to pay attention, and learn. It is as simple as that. The student has to want to be there and love music. The student needs to improve as well. This can be done simply by practice and meeting reasonable expectations. And of course, to love music!

The role of the teacher in music educationis to be a vessel of information to students. They are responsible for making sure the information is understood and absorbed. Teachers should alsobe available to accommodate student needs. They, as any teacher can be, could often be one of the only trusted adults in a students life. Teachers should be available to students andpay attention and hear what students have to say.

The role of the music teacher in the communityis to make music available to the community.Outreach is very important as well. A music teacher should work with the community to bring performers in to help teach as well. Teachers should also be a person people can come to for advice and music information.
