The Human Factor: Training vs Technology

Introduction

In the ever-growing world of technology and cybersecurity there are always going to be risks and threats you can’t avoid, even if a company tries to, it’s not cost-effective.  With how companies and their employees are so intertwined with technology and digital data, the best defenses are good cybersecurity systems, policies, and trained employees.

Technology

Companies are run on technology, most companies even ones considered brick and mortar must have a technology system or database, no matter how small. Technology determines the functionality and the security of a company but at a cost, advanced systems for encryption and data protection are a must to protect privacy and data loss.

Training

Thorough and complete training gives more power and trust to the employees within a company. It allows the employees to handle problems that otherwise would be offloaded to IT or Cybersecurity.  The more trust in the employees and training given to employees the less needed to spend on physical security and advanced authentication and verification systems. Improved trust within a company can be profitable up to 186% more than companies with less trust (Ladikia, S). An increase in training reduces chances and likeness for social engineering attacks through employees (Alexandar, M).

Conclusion

In my opinion, training is more valuable than the most advanced security systems and is a better value for a company overall. Social engineering is one of the most effective ways to infiltrate a company, (Alexandar, M). Also, increased training and trust lead to better productivity and less workplace deviance.
