For my social media persona, I have elected not to use my personal persona because all I have on my twitter page is the thoughts of a disgruntled Commanders fan, despite a win last night over the Bears. Instead, I will provide details about the twitter account I run for my internship, @theneptunebowl.
I created the Neptune Bowl’s twitter account on September 12th and have gained 112 followers during that time. The first thing I did upon creating the account was set up the bio with all of the important information about the Bowl Game, but there is a limited amount of characters for a bio, so I had to make them count.
The purpose of this account is to advertise the Neptune Bowl and get people interested in attending the game with my tweets, and ultimately sell them tickets. The best way to do that for such a low-profile game is to appeal to the most firm markets, which in this case are the Apprentice School and the ODAC.
So, the way I have attempted to gain the interest of these markets is through their players and coaches. Since conference play started, I provide weekly updates on the matchups and scores of the ODAC games with a graphic I created. Additionally, I have done one ODAC player of the week post (I had to stop because not every ODAC team has agreed to play in the game and we are not sure which ones those are so I can’t use their images alone) and an Apprentice School player spotlight. Of the two, the Apprentice player spotlight did much better.
The other kinds of tweets people are able to expect from the Neptune Bowl Account are updates on the Apprentice School. They have been on bye the past two weeks, but before that they were on fire and I was making the most of it to try and “gas them up” since they usually are not the best football team.
Ultimately, the persona of the Neptune Bowl is to shed a positive light on Division-III football and create a fun college football game day atmosphere in Virginia Beach.
