In the article, one of the values that was talked about was change. I believe this value describes my life very well because of all the changes that happened over with past two years with COVID. When COVID hit, I was in the process of changing colleges and learning how to keep my body moving when everything was shut downed. I believe the different changes that happened helped me grow as a person and let me become a better person for this society. Change will always happen in your life and should be expected to happen.

If another culture viewed change in their life, then I think it wouldn’t be a good thing. Other cultures in different places outside of the United States focus more on traditions than changing traditions. Some traditions can be something religious for a culture or something that can bring wealth in someone’s life. Change could be bad because it would break tradition and could bring bad luck into that person’s life.

I most identify with minimization of difference because my boyfriend is Serbian. This culture was definitely a new culture to me because I was never aware of the Serbian culture until I meet my boyfriend and his family. One custom of their culture was taking your shoes off before you entire the house because that shows respect to the homeowners. They celebrate their Christmas on January 7th rather than December 25th. When any of their big holidays happens, they go out to a farm to kill a pig for the dinners. One big that my boyfriend’s father is a customed to because of the Serbian culture is none of his children can have tattoos. It is shown in the culture that people with tattoos are consider bad people.

This assignment can help me gain ways that I can respect someone’s culture in the right way. Being able to understand why a certain culture is different from my culture. I always wanted to have a better understanding of different cultures and how I can be respectful towards the cultures. It showed how no matter how different the cultures can be we’re all the same.
