Course Reflection

During this course, I learned a lot by doing the video tests because it allowed me to use the new vocabulary and to be more comfortable speaking in French and trying to hold a conversation. At the beginning of the semester, I hated the idea of doing them but now I am happy that I had the opportunity to do them.  Also, I liked the journals as well because I like to write in French and it tracked my progress throughout the course. As far as utilizing this course towards a career, I do not know seeing as how I do not even know what I want to do in the future. However, this class will useful for when I complete my study abroad in France. Unfortunately, my job has majority Spanish-speaking customer, therefore I am unable to use my French.

My biggest problem in this class was confidence. I was not confident enough to speak in class, which is probably why I had bad grades in participation. I believe that I will say the wrong thing or make myself look like an idiot in front of my classmates and professor, so in order to avoid that horrid situation, I do not speak unless called upon. I was hoping that this class would increase my confidence, but sadly, it did not. Just about everyone could hold long conversations in class, but I could not understand what they were saying, which made me feel even more stupid than I already am. Before I leave for my study abroad, I will have to restudy everything single thing I have learned in French so I do not have that bad feeling again. I really need to go over the verb tenses and commit them to memory. I have spent so many years studying French, so I want to make sure that it sticks with me and not disappear due to no use. After all, “Use it or lose it”.
