Distant Survivors was a play directed by June Prager. When reading the play, it was so open to interpretation that almost everyone in the class had a different meaning to the same concept. It was not a hard read by any means, but because it was interpreted in other ways it hard for the class to make a general consensus about the play. It was particular frustrating for me at least when we were spit balling ideas to June Prager about how the play was written and she was completely dumbfounded. We had put all this thought and analysis into her play and she had such more simpler reasoning for why she did what she did. Then, I went to see the play in Virginia Beach and I was quite frankly disappointed. It did not meet my expectations, but that is probably because when one is reading, they are “transported to another world” so to speak. As the reader, one gets to image how the story is played out in their head and I believe that is why the play did not meet my expectations. I imaged the play at little different than how it played out. Despite my disappointment, I thoroughly enjoyed reading the play and being able to analyze and pull it apart.
