Survival in Auschwitz

Survival in Auschwitz was written by Primo Levi in 1947, a mere two years after the end of the war and the camp liberation. As how it was discussed in class, his book is more a survival guide than a memoir. For example, he has every move pre-calculated and how to use bread as currency to your benefit. In my response paper, I mentioned that he will write in a memory of his ordeal, but then he analyzes his own memory. He wrote about a dream he had one night in Auschwitz, and the following paragraph he tried to decipher the dream and what it meant. I believe that this may a coping mechanism for Levi or possibly a way for him to distance himself the reality of his ordeal.
