The last part of my time with the Alzheimer’s Association was not exactly how everyone pictured how it would be. Due to COVID-19 the office was closed right when all of it started. Since then, I have been getting my hours in in various ways. The first thing I did was edit the resource manual in its entirety. I read over the whole thing, editing the any errors and to look to see if anything needed to be added or taken out.
I also sat in on a lot of Monday morning meetings which were lead by my preceptor and included her team from the office. These meetings were check-ins and re caps for the week and making sure that they were all on the same page. These were nice for me to sit in on to get hours and to also see how they communicated. I had weekly check-ins with just my preceptor and I to talk about what I was doing and she would tell me some things that she needed me to do. Some of these were cleaning up the calendar so that it was up do date with the events that has been changed and canceled due to the virus. I also sat in on some support groups and other meetings that were taking place.
As for my last chunk of hours I did some training videos that were provided on the organizations page. These trainings were about the organization, some were about diversity, communication skills, and those living with Alzheimer’s. Although the latter part of my internship did not include my usual tasks and responsibilities it is refreshing to know that I have completed my required 200 hours.
