Cyber technology has created opportunities for workplace deviance by giving people a chance to perform deviant acts without even putting their hands on anything that’s not theirs. People can make viruses or malware and infect an entire company’s system all because they didn’t get employee of the month or a raise that they asked for. It gives the people ways to attack digitally rather than having to try to get into the building physically. If they were to have to go and perform the deviant acts physically, it could take a lot of time and risk to get through security and other workers whereas with cyber technology all they would have to do is send a phishing email to the employees of the company and hope that they aren’t smart enough to go around it. If they catch a hit with an unsuspecting employee, they’ve got every bit of the company in their hands because the employee was fooled by a fake login page and gave the attacker their credentials. Angry employees could cause as much havoc as possible when it comes to the digital world, including things like putting out sensitive documents on the internet or even lowering the security of the company so that outside attackers can get into the company network easier. If an employee was angry at a company for not showing them appreciation, they could tamper with the company website and either make it look like a huge mess or have planted a virus within a file or webpage on the site. A disgruntled employee could also gain access to a protected area in the systems and leak every employees names, addresses, as well as their social security numbers and possibly cause a massive loss of money towards the company because of their employees’ personal lives being thrown out into the wild unprotected.
