Introduction to Networking and Security is a class that describes the fundamental concepts of data networks and communication, the technologies of them, the components, and issues related to them. You also learn about the basic network architecture via specific needs and a set of hosts and clients. You also will learn to apply your knowledge of network tech and will learn to build a working network. The assignment that stood out to me the most was an assignment that I had to do where I had to set up router tables for a network within a high school. I first had to set up a diagram of the network via subnets and I had to make configurations for LAN and WAN configurations via two separate routers. After making the subnet and IP configurations, I then had to create the routing tables to let my professor know which way that an ip address would head into based on the table information I was given. I would also find out the subnet mask, where its router hop would be, and also which interface it would go on which would either be LAN or WAN.
A character trait that I gained from this was to be orderly because of how complex computers can be. When trying to work with these kinds of assignments, it’s best to make things as organized as possible because if you make these things and have them completely unorganized it can really put you into some trouble when you really need it in the future if problems were to arise. It will help me in the future because it’ll help me find my way to the answers of my problems if I were to have any happen. A value I learned from this was learning because when searching for ways to figure this out, I started to slowly figure things out and make my way through the assignment faster. It allowed me to learn it because it required me to search through my textbook and notes to find out how to figure out my answers and it’ll support me in the future with my personal goals and professional aims by giving me the knowledge for it now so that I can remember and use it in the future for assignments that I will need to look through either the internet, a textbook i have nearby, or a notebook that I have with me that has notes for if I ever get stuck working on network settings or repairs. A skill I learned from this is organizational skills because when working on this kind of work, it’s best to keep it organized so that it’s much easier for me to get to in case I get lost or I forget what I had to do with it. This will help me in the future because organization is great for a company when looking for something that could save them from potential problems as well as help myself out so that I don’t get chewed out by a higher up in the organization because I can’t figure out how to do something.
Artifacts that I could use for this experience could be assignments that I’ve done that relate to what work I’ve done in the class, I could also provide examples of router tables and some tables, and I could also provide images of a high school I had to work with. I choose to use the previous works because it’ll give a better understanding of what I had performed in the class so that there will be a good amount of data shown on the class for others to see what I had done. This artifact is worth including because when people wish to find out what I had done in the class, the work will give detailed information so that they can think about taking the class for themselves. The works that are provided are a few powerpoints relating to previous assignments. All of the assignments deal with me searching for equipment to use in each of my assignments such as cables, outlets, ports, and servers. After I find out what kinds of equipment I need, I budget what I need to figure out how much money I’m spending within each of the assignments. I also have provided tables based on how I planned all of my work along with how I planned to set my server organization.
