Have you ever been to a company that lets you bring your own devices from home? Although it’s a decent idea so that others may do their work on their own devices, it also causes a huge risk. The devices could have data breaches due to poor security if the user who owns the device doesn’t have a lot of protection on it. This poor security leads to data breaches if not properly secured in the right amount of time. There could be many people that use those systems as a opportunity to make their way into the network of the company the users work for. Data breaches can be extremely dangerous for a company and a single individual.
The problem that’s being addressed is data breaches in mobile devices. Since bring your own devices is a thing in some companies, they don’t realize how much of a problem that can be when you have no idea how others keep their computers organized or secured. Mobile devices that can be brought to the workplace include tablets and laptops, which can be very troublesome if the users do the wrong things on their tablets or have no antivirus on their laptops. If the people barely take care of their own devices as well as knowing proper ways to protect them, they shouldn’t be allowed to bring their own devices. If they brought their devices in and the device isn’t protected against malware, they could leave the company in great danger. Laptops don’t usually come with a firewall or an antivirus, especially older laptops and tablets don’t seem to carry any antivirus without physically searching one up on the internet or in the tablet’s app store. Not being protected in these ways can be harmful to the company, which could cause bankruptcy.
The way that I know it’s a problem is because there are many news reports that bring up this problem. Articles saying that mobile companies are losing millions of dollars from data breaches. There are also notifications that get sent out to people who own the mobile devices that had data breaches and it left bad tastes in people’s mouths for the companies not keeping up the security. The data breaches get much worse within companies who do the bring your own device policy, which heavily puts the companies in danger. When people bring their devices, they believe everything is fine and that their computers are safe. That entire thing is wrong because since you’re connected to the company’s internet via wireless, you’re putting the entire company at risk if you have no sort of antivirus or antimalware on your pc. It’s a problem because some people who bring in their mobile devices don’t realize that if they fall for a social engineering attack or download a virus on their laptop, it’ll infect the entire company and potentially hurt it in a way that could be unable to fix.
What I’m going to do about the problem is make an application for mobile devices that can protect them from data breaches. It’ll be an antimalware program that will encrypt all messages that get sent out to the work computers and mobile devices, and outside attackers won’t be able to get through into the traffic because the program will also monitor the activity on the company’s internet. The name of the application will be called Purge, since will be purging all sources of malware and viruses. It’ll take the receiver’s keys and encrypt the sender’s message so that if someone tries to be the man in the middle, they won’t be able to intercept it because they have neither of the keys in the private encryption system. The program will have a mobile application and a set of computer versions for all three of the main operating systems that can be downloaded via the website for it. When the user downloads the app, their email will be sent a code that will allow them to activate the program on their device. Once they use the code, nobody else will be able to use it since it’s a one-time code. If a company purchases the program, they are given a code to use a limited amount of times to get the program on as many computers in their building as possible such as a company that runs accounting or large companies like videogame studios.
The barriers that I expect would be copyright issues, being approved by a company to be part of them, and potential lawsuits that could happen. The barrier of copyright is the most important one because when dealing with this kind of thing, it can go to court really quick. If we were to continue with the name Purge, we’d have to search around on the internet to find out if there are any other antivirus programs called Purge and if there aren’t any we could possibly go along with the copyright claim. If we’re unable to claim the name for our program, we may either need to find another name or we may check if the copyright is expired. If we make the program into Purge and try to copyright it and we find out another company has the claim, we may have to face a lawsuit from the group that owns the copyright. When it comes to approval, we have to figure out a sales pitch for our product that will gain the attention of others, such as large companies with bring your own device policies. If they purchase the product, they can make their employees get the program if their mobile device doesn’t have an antivirus program on it already. If our pitch gets picked up by a company, we will have to create a design that pops out to get the public to see us. If we get people who wish to try out our product, we can see if they give us any sort of approval for making the program better for the public and if we don’t get any positive approval, we may need to tweak the program a bit to be more user friendly. If it still doesn’t get approved, then we may need to keep trying until we either run out of funds for it or until we give up on trying. If out product does get approved and we send it to the public, we have to make sure it’s as secure as we can get it with the correct restrictions and a good amount of knowledgeable people in the group that know what they’re doing so that we can prevent any lawsuits. If we end up missing something and someone files a lawsuit on us, we could end up in big trouble from the law. If we were to get into a lawsuit and lose, we may lose a lot of our funds to keep our company alive and we may have to file for bankruptcy which could easily kill all of the trust we gained from our customers.
There are a few ways we could tell if we were successful in the process. We would check our site and other sites that we have put the program and see if we have any reviews on the product. If the reviews are coming out as positive, that means that it could lead us to getting more sales compared to other programs in the same field. Positive reviews are definitely helpful when checking if we’re successful or not. If we check websites that are blog sites or reviewer sites to see if they’ve spoken up about our product, depending on how their reviews on it are, we could be on our way to becoming more popular, which would definitely make things a lot better for us in the future. If we’re looking towards our sales, we could check for how many copies are being sold in a specific timeframe, and if we notice that it’s going up, then we’d definitely be making a profit and could potentially gain more revenue based on how much we sell. Even if we’re not selling that much at a time, we could also give sales to increase revenue. We could hire pen testers and white hat hackers for our program to check if we’re secure enough in the field that are vitally necessary. They could give us their quality checks to make sure we’re ready and if we’re missing some stuff that would hurt us greatly, we could take our time to fix said problems and check again for positive quality checks. Once those are finished and we get the OK from the testers and hackers, that’ll put us on the right track to being a company that’ll be accepted into the world.
Purge will be a product that will make sure all devices in a BYOD based company are safe and secure from outside attackers. People may give our program a shot to see if we can protect their systems as much as possible and if they don’t like it, then that’s okay because we can still try for other users. If we continue that though, things may go south for us which we’re trying to prevent. We will make sure that we get the best quality checks and make sure our copyright can go through to prevent lawsuits. If our customers like our product a lot more than we anticipated, we could have ourselves a great product that can protect mobile devices from having their data breached and keep companies afloat for a lot longer than if they weren’t to have our program to help.
