When you live in a certain country, you don’t really think about what it’s like in another country. For example, if you live in Australia, you probably aren’t worried about lions attacking your city and if you live in Africa you’re not worried about a kangaroo boxing you in the town. The same applies for cybersecurity. Living in the United States, you think a lot about cyber crimes happening. Phishing is one main cyber crime we have to worry about. I am always concerned when I buy something online that it might be fake and I’m getting scammed. If I lived in another country that didn’t have this problem, I wouldn’t even think about it. The top five countries that partake in cyber crimes are the United States, China, Brazil, Germany, and India. These are the worst places to be if you are worried about a cyber attack happening to you or your company. There are also different lists that a country can be on for the type of cyber crime they have the most of. Nigeria, South Africa, and Ghana are among the top countries with major fee fraud occurring. A lot of phishing attacks are occurring in China, Russia, Ukraine, the United States, and Brazil. The top pirating countries are the United States, China, Russia, and Ukraine. The common factor in all of these lists is the United States. This means that the United States is one of the top countries involved in cyber crime, which is not that surprising based on the amount phishing phone calls I get. There is also a lot of news coverage on cyber crime here in the United States. While the United States is one of the top countries with the amount of cyber crimes being committed, most of the crimes are non-serious. This means that the crimes are not actually getting a lot of information or hurting anyone. The top four in this non-serious category are the United States, Canada, China, and Japan. While it is annoying to have all of the phishing calls and whatnot, it’s better that they aren’t actually getting anything like in other countries. Many other countries have the same issues we have with cyber crime, which proves that cybersecurity is a global issue.
