Reflection Essay 2:

After completing essay two, I feel more confident and I improved my errors from the first essay. I also got a higher overall score on the second paper. In the essay, I fixed my punctuation errors that I had in my first paper. In class I continued to work on worksheets, which are meant to fix my errors in sentence structure and grammar/punctuation. I am still on track in the class and I continue to work to try to get ahead in the class. Some people say that they still haven’t learned anything essential in UNIV 150, but I believe it is helpful because it has continued to show me more writing skills and how to work on a website.

In the second essay, I have utilized all of the techniques I have learned so far class, which helped make this paper easier to write. I corrected all of my mistakes from my first essay, while I also took advantage of each of the lessons about grammar and punctuation I did in class to write this essay. This essay was about many different study habits, and which one I prefer most. I believe that because I review all of my mistakes from my first essay, I was able to do better on essay number two and eliminate all of my prior errors.

I have also continued to work on the Eportfolio site. On the site I have now finished up to essay two, I have posted the editing skills checklist, journals 6-10 and the reflection essay for essay two. Creating this website will help me in my future, when employers see the page, they will be able to tell that I am good with technology. This can give me a step up in the competition, and a better chance at getting hired for the job.

In UNIV 150 I am still on track with all of the assignments I have been given in the class. While i’m in class I still use the time wisely, and continue to learn new ways to correctly write a paper. Although some people say that UNIV 150 is a class not needed in college, I feel as if I am benefiting from taking it because I am getting prepared for writing papers in college, and in my future job. As the semester continues I believe that I will be ready to take on college level writing courses.

Journals 6-10:

6) When I am reading for a class, there are many strategies I use to make sure I understand everything in the textbook. Some of the strategies I use are to highlight the important facts, read the description of the bolded words, and to read outloud. The reason I use these strategies is because the professors will usually make the tests and quizzes directly from the textbook. When I highlight the important facts in the textbook, it makes it easier to go back and look for specific details in the reading. It also makes it easier to keep the facts in the textbook organized. When I read the description of the bolded words in the textbook it helps me understand what the book is talking about. The bolded words also are usually put in the tests and quizzes so if I am able to understand them I should be able to do better on the quiz. I like to read out loud is because it is easier to understand what the textbook is describing. I also will remember the information in the textbook better if I read it outloud because not only am I reading it but im also hearing it.

7) When I am in class, I use many different techniques to take notes. Different classes require different strategies to take notes. Some of the ways you can take notes are to use bullet points, write summaries of what is talked about, and to take a video of the lecture. My preferred method of taking notes is to use bullet points. The reason I like to use bullet points is because a bullet point is a short description of each topic discussed in the class. I use this to write down the basics about each topic and later when I review the notes, I can then go back and do more research on each topic. It is also easier to pay attention in class when you only write down bullet points because sometimes the professor will speak to fast. If you are writing too much, you can get behind and not write down some of the important facts in the discussion. I enjoy taking notes in class because it keeps me engaged in the discussion. Taking notes during the class also reassures that I will have the information needed to study and do better on the tests and quizzes.

8) The degree I chose to pursue is a business and accounting major. The reason I chose to be this major is because I enjoy working with numbers and I also want an office job. I also am very good with social interactions so it would be easy for me to complete sales. To complete a business degree you need lots of math classes because you have to be able to deal with numbers all the time as an accountant. There are also multiple business classes to take. This semester I am in Introduction to Contemporary Business. In this class it gives you the basis of what it takes to be a business major. Because the class is an intro level course, it gives me an opportunity to decide if I want to stay in this major. If I choose to switch majors I will easily be able to without getting too far into the business degree. I plan to continue this degree all through college, and pursue a job in this career field.

9) There are many reasons why students should not drop out of college. One of the main reasons is I believe that the majority of high paying jobs are requiring a college degree. If I stay  in college, it also teaches you many life lessons. Some of the life lessons consist of, how to interact with others, how to properly manage time, and to find out what career path best suits me. College shows me how to interact with others by putting me in a housing environment to see how I work with a random person, and group projects are very common in college, and that teaches me to work well with others. Managing time can be very stressful. College will teach me to manage my school work while also having a social life and staying active. Lastly I should not drop out of college because it shows me many different options I could have for a career. I will also get educated in college to get a higher paying job. I believe that staying in college is very beneficial and It will help me plan out the rest of my life.

10) After college there are many job opportunities with the major I have chosen. Some of the jobs I could get with this degree are, a CFO, Financial Director, and a Corporate Controller. The job I am looking to get after college would be a CFO, or otherwise known as a Chief Financial Officer. In that career field I would have to work with the President of the company and the Chief Operating Officer on managing the budget for the company. I would not be able to get that job right out of college. It would take many years of working as an accountant to work up to that position. I plan on using college to help educate me in that career field, and to prepare me for all the work ahead of me. If I work as a CFO I will need to go back for my masters degree to give me the upper hand in applying for the job. I believe that this is the perfect career path for me and I will continue to get educated in that field. It will get me ready for the work to come, and how to properly fulfill the position.
