Journal Entry 2
Empiricism, Objectivity, Determinism, and Parsimony all relate to cybersecurity and each other in their own way. Empiricism ensures scientists do not use hunches or personal opinions while researching. This is important in cybersecurity experiments because most of its experiments are made in cyberspace which can be difficult for an average social scientist to immerse themselves in. Objectivity is similar to Empiricism in which it requires scientists to look at data from a logical stance in a value free manner. This is important when looking at cybercrime because one mustn’t let their personal biases influence their work especially when handling sensitive topics. Determinism is the principle that states that actions are caused by preceding events. This is important when studying cybersecurity and cybercrime because it gives data on the background and patterns in who and why certain people commit these crimes. Parsimony relates to all of these principles. It is the principle that states that scientists should keep their explanations as simple as possible. This is important because it increases the likelihood of people taking in information and acting on information. Using all of these principles when studying cybersecurity is important to the collection and spread of proper data that can be used to better the field.
