The article discusses the increasing significance of social cybersecurity in modern times. It states that technology is able to manipulate the global marketplace of beliefs and ideas at a rapid pace. I would have to agree given how technology becomes more and more ingrained into people’s everyday lives. We cannot look at technology and sociology as mutually exclusive. Technology is built into the elements of national power: diplomatic, information, military, and economic. The power to manipulate these factors on a national or even global scale could have disastrous consequences. Physical presence is no longer necessary to influence people. Open societies like America with freedom of speech are vulnerable to social manipulation. We must educate ourselves on social cybersecurity in order to protect ourselves from external manipulation.
