Cybersecurity Analyst
With the rapid evolution of technology and its integration into our everyday lives it is now more important than ever that we safeguard our digital information. This is the role that falls upon the shoulders of cybersecurity analysts. It is their job to protect our networks and systems from cyber attacks and unauthorized access. Using their skills in technology and social sciences they are charged with the responsibility of identifying and responding to threats and vulnerabilities as well as ensuring and helping others comply with the cybersecurity policies. Because this important job has so much to do with human behavior and compliance in order to do their job properly they must have an exceptional understanding of the social sciences.
A cybersecurity analyst must have an understanding of the social sciences in order to properly identify and protect against certain vulnerabilities. The most common source of network vulnerabilities is human behavior. A cybersecurity analyst must make sure that the company they work for has proper cybersecurity protocols and policies for employees themselves and the company from social engineering attacks such as phishing, malware, vishing, etc. in order to combat such attacks on the company cybersecurity analyst must have an understanding of the social sciences and be able to educate others to best protect the company.
In the event of a cyber attack a cybersecurity analyst must be able to help mitigate the consequences as well as realize how to best prevent similar ones from happening again. They must have an understanding of why it happened, what was targeted, what the consequences were, and how to help prevent the mistakes that allowed it to happen again. In order to do that they must use their knowledge of human behavior to find the original vulnerability and train their fellow employees in the company on the best tactics so as to not allow a similar attack to happen again.
In conclusion, cybersecurity analysts must be able to understand human behavior and the social sciences in order to best protect their company. They have to understand their company’s most valuable assets and their greatest weaknesses so as to know what to focus on while shielding it from cyberattacks. It is their responsibility to protect the company and help others take the most safe actions to mitigate the damage done by those who would exploit the company. Having an understanding of the social sciences is imperative to any cybersecurity or general security career, especially a cybersecurity analyst, because it has everything to do with protecting assets from human exploitation.
