What is the overlap between criminal justice and cybercrime? How does this overlap relate to the other disciplines discussed in this class?

Criminal justice systems exist to uphold laws and hold people accountable who do not follow the laws of the land. The first state to create a law that addressed computer crimes was Florida in 1978. The laws were created in response to the developing opportunities for people to commit crimes online. Criminal justice can identify what cybercrime is, what it means to be a cyber offender and a victim of cyber crime and how to prevent becoming a victim of cyber crime.

The advancements in technology has made life very convenient for everyone. Lots of business operate online, and people enjoy the convenience of shopping online, storing data in the clouds, and connecting with love ones via social media. The advancement in technology also gave more opportunity to criminals. Criminals also use technology to commit crimes life fraud, and identity theft. Criminal justice also deal with crime prevention. To combat cyber crime, other disciplines like physical security, and computer security are important. Just as a bank stores its high values items and money in a safe or volt with combination locks that only a few authorized people have access to, computer security is very similar. Not everyone has the right to access resources stored on a company’s network, and those with access have been vetted. For an extra layer of assurance, there is physical security who will prevent unauthorized individuals from gaining access to the facility where the computer resources are located. All these aspects work together in an effort to prevent cybercrime.
