Four ethical issues that arise when storing electronic information about individuals are collection, use, maintenance, and sharing.  Collection of large amounts of information create security vulnerabilities as criminals come looking for that information, as well the likelihood of internal abuse rises.  How the company uses the information also can become a problem as they try to respect their users and not treat their information as additional profit.   The maintenance of data also becomes an issue as organizations may not apply the newest standards to old data.  And lastly the sharing of data with third parties who may not have the same privacy or user data standards can violate a user’s privacy and destroy the relationship a user has with an organization.  A disclosure of sensitive information can risk legal consequences for an organization as well as damage peoples trust in the services.

Cyber security risks in the United States and Nigeria are different in scope and type.  To begin the U.S. is a much larger economy and population and as such the total amount of cyber crime is much higher than Nigeria.  The U.S has been targeted the most for internet fraud scam known as phising where emails are sent trying to lure users to reveal their online accounts and passwords to an attacker.  Nigeria is also the source of many advanced fee fraud attacks, where a victim is asked to pay a fee to receive something that never materializes. A famous example is the Nigerian prince scam, where a victim receives an email asking for help from a “Nigerian Prince” who has been locked out of all his money, if you send him money he will be able to return home and can repay with interest on your kindness.  Compared between these two countries the wealthier U.S. has lower rates of online piracy of films, music, and television shows, than the poorer Nigeria.
