Management of Information Security
This course shows students the need for management and technology to successfully implement an information security program in an organization. We talked about threats, attacks, legal and ethical issues, risk assessment and control strategies. Then, discussed the aspects of planning, development, and maintenance of organizations security policies. Talk about the importance of contingency planning. Lastly, we talked about the tools that make security feasible like, firewalls, intrusion detection systems and other security tools. This course taught me that there was more to security than just the technology that secures the systems, it taught me that there was a whole organizational structure behind it.
This course taught me many new skills and things that I will think about when making future decisions. It taught me a little bit about how to choose technologies and where to place them on the network. It taught me about how the organization needs to have written rules and guidelines to make sure that the systems work correctly. It taught me that it is best to make disaster plans even if you don’t expect to use them.
