After watching the video shown, It has definitely dawned upon me once again that hackers in media are displayed MUCH differently than they are in reality. They are mostly seen as these neon green and cyan clad, futuristic geniuses that are able to hack into anything. The most unrealistic portion is how quickly they are able to do so, with hacking segments consisting of 5 to 45 seconds of incredibly fast, nonstop typing until the computer says “access granted.” This is all not without good reason, as hacking in real life is much much slower and much more boring, with hackers appearing as average citizens. Real hacking is all about reading lines of code and troubleshooting, while media hacking is flashy with green binary code raining down the screen and digital skulls flying around the computer. However radically different it may be, it has still introduced plenty into the world of Computer Science.
