In a TEDTalk presentation, a man by the name of Davin Teo, is a Digital Forensic Specialist, which is someone who retrieves data from a cyber incident and analyzes the data to collect clues about the perpetrator and the crime scene. He describes his journey into the field a someone who hasn’t really had that many dedicated avenues into cybersecurity as we do now. He was an accountant working in a separate field until he found out that his job needed an IT person, and he assumed it would just require a ground-level knowledge of computers, so he took on the challenge. This increased his interest in the world of IT a great deal, as he worked to the point where he got an invite to be a part of one of the first digital forensics team in Australia. I find his story interesting and very impressive, considering that he got in with a basic understanding of computers, and was able to gain a good enough repertoire to be able to specialize in that field completely outside of what he studied for. In the cyber field, it has gotten much more complicated, but there are much more resources and demand than ever before, and someday I will be able to discover my niche as well.
