Of all the illegal online activities described, five are particularly serious in terms of potential consequences and ethical implications: using unofficial streaming services and torrent sites to access copyrighted content without paying, thus depriving creators of their due compensation and exposing users to legal risks; cyberbullying and trolling, with potentially serious psychological consequences for victims and criminal charges. Posting personal information about others without their consent, such as addresses or photos, is a major privacy breach; such posts might lead to harassment or hurt. Impersonation online with the intention of fraud is literally identity theft and is punishable by law. Lastly, collecting information about children under 13 without parental consent is against child protection laws and will put minors at risk. These are serious offenses because of the potential to cause harm, infringe on the rights of others, and the legal actions that may be brought against a person.
