CYSE 301

Cybersecurity Techniques and Operations

This course introduces tools and techniques used to secure and analyze large computer networks and systems. Students will explore and map networks using a variety of diagnostic software tools, learn advanced packet analysis, configure firewalls, write intrusion detection rules, perform forensic investigation, and practice techniques for penetration testing.

This class introduced me to what it was like to be a White Hat Hacker. We used different applications such as Nmap and Wireshark to sniff and follow packets to try and find information. We were able to utilize metasploit and different exploits on our testing VMs to gain root access into systems. We also learned how to best setup and utilize a firewall for protectiona against outside threats.

Some of the hands-on labs I did involved:

  1. Traffic tracing through Wireshark and TCPdump
  2. Firewall configuration with pfSense
  3. Penetration test on Windows
  4. Password cracking
  5. Information hiding
