Opportunities for Workplace Deviance

Cyber technology has definitely made the workplace more efficient allowing better communication and connectivity. However, it has made it easier to be deviant in the workplace, but also easy to get caught. An example of this is through the increase in remote work. While some companies allow you to work from home, it can be easy for an employee to slack off and not get their work done even when they’re “on the clock”. To mitigate this, some companies put monitoring software on their devices. After this, employers may go an extra step to get applications that would make it look as though they are working. Deviance in the workplace could also be as simple as using your phone or scrolling through social media when there are more important things to be done. Browsing habits are often monitored in the workplace to prevent people from engaging in bad behaviors. Companies have policies in place that work to keep you off political sites, or even gambling sites as well as downloading unauthorized applications.
