Blog #5
This week we were assigned to reflect on 10 “I am…” statements, then sort them into independent self construal or interdependent self construal. After creating the 10 “I am…” statements, I found 7 of them to be independent and 3 of them to be interdependent. With that being said it is clear that I identify more with the independent self construal model.
Proverb / Idioms | Independent / Interdependent |
Actions speak louder than words | Independent |
Alway put your best foot forward | Independent |
Your guess is as good as mine | Interdependent |
Chip off the old block | Interdependent |
I really struggled with this assignment but found the independent category to be easier to think of idioms. I think it was easier for me to find independent idioms because I identify more with the independent self construal model. I believe I’m so independent because of how I was raised/experiences. When my parents got divorced my mom had nothing and struggled to get a job because she hadn’t worked for years and became dependent on my dad. Seeing her struggle because she lost her independence made me realize that my independence is something to value because at the end of the day when things go wrong all you can rely on is yourself.
I choose this image to represent a strong independent woman. I believe in society many women tend to lose their independence in relationships. This is something I think all women need to strive to be.
