How I satisfy my needs academically for:
Autonomy- I used to have a really hard time with the fact that my parents didn’t help me financially with schooling. I have struggled and worked multiple jobs to pay for school. Working hard and paying for school out of pocket has been hard work but very rewarding and satisfying. I have learned how to be independent and that I can do anything that I put my mind to.
Competence- When learning to pay for school I faced many challenges. These challenges have helped me so much academically. My problem solving skills have improved so much and I have become so much more confident in my decision making. I know now that I have the competence to face any challenge not only in school but in life.
Relatedness- I unfortunately have very little experience academically when it comes to relatedness. I transferred to Old Dominion University during the peak of the coronavirus. With that being said I have still not attended an in person class or even been to campus yet. I’m very introverted which doesn’t help my situation. As stuff begins to open back up at school, I still find myself shying away from joining any clubs or groups on campus. I believe the only way I satisfy my needs for relatedness is through work.
