Learning Style

STEP 1: EVALUATE YOUR STUDY HABITS

  1. Describe your current methods of study. How do you study for each class?

I always considered myself a person with good study habits, I like to write things out, I like even better to watch videos on YouTube of simplified information to dumb it down for myself. My favorite ways to study for each class vary with the information, for example I like to create study guides for classes like sociology and history, but I prefer to print past tests and worksheets when it comes to classes like Chemistry.

    1. What specific techniques do you use in class?

In class I write notes, but I usually re-write them later during study times to get a better understanding of the information. I also like to follow along with the power point on my computer.

    1. What specific techniques do you use outside of class?

I like to capitalize on resources such as tutoring and YouTube, I also re-write my notes from class.

  1. Identify one class in which you are doing well (not HLTH 101).   What study methods work best and why?

I am doing well in my Sociology class; I study for this class by taking practice quizzes online and handwriting study guides.

STEP 2: IDENTIFY AND APPLY NEW LEARNING TECHNIQUES

  1. Identify one class (other than HLTH 101) where you are experiencing challenges and address the following questions.

I find my History class to be very challenging for the sole fact that it is a very large amount of information taught to us, and the workload of homework is a little bit overwhelming.

  1. Review at least 5 academic tips/resources listed here:https://www.odu.edu/success/academic/tips. Which 5 tips did you review, and what is one new technique you could try in class to help you better understand the material?

I reviewed 5 tips including avoiding distractions like phones, promising myself rewards, not forget necessities of life, Ordering tasks by importance, and not overextending myself. In class I will try the tip of using the bottom of my page of notes as a summery section so its easier to refer to later when studying.

  1. What is one new technique you could try outside of class to help you better understand the material?

I will try the tip of prioritizing my work by importance and creating a schedule for work, so everything is not so overwhelming.
