Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs is a psychological theory that outlines the five levels of human needs, ranging from basic physiological needs to self-actualization. In today’s digital age, technology has become an integral part of our lives, influencing and shaping our experiences in various ways. At the base of the pyramid are physiological needs such as food, water, and shelter. Technology has changed these aspects by providing us with online grocery shopping, food delivery apps, and smart home systems that ensure comfort and convenience. For me, especially as I have weakened immune system due to a medical condition having the ability to get grocery’s without having to worry about getting sick is a life changing. The next level is safety needs. Technology plays a crucial role here through security systems, surveillance cameras, and GPS tracking devices that enhance personal safety and protect our belongings. One thing that comes to mind to for this level is my Ring device as this gives me the ability to see whose in front yard, when a package is on the porch, and it can deter porch pirates. Moving up the pyramid is the need for love and belongingness. Social media platforms enable us to connect with friends and family across distances while dating apps provide opportunities for romantic relationships. For me apps like Facebook and Instagram allow me to stay in touch with many friends and family members across the country. The fourth level encompasses esteem needs. You can also apply social media for this level as many people including me use social media to feel recognized or to display achievement’s. The top of Maslow’s hierarchy, self-actualization, symbolizes the last stage. For me I don’t think I’ve got to this level yet maybe after I receive my degree that will change.
