n the article The Present and Future of Cybercrime, Cyberterrorism, and Cybersecurity, it starts
of by identifying what is Cybercriminology. Cybercriminology is an interdisciplinary study that
identifies the causes of cybercrime. The articles hypotheses presented by the International
Journal of Cybersecurity Intelligence and Cybercrime is to provide new methods and approaches
to the existing issues within the field of Cybercriminology. The issues covered in the article are
illegal contents on social media, cyberterrorism, social engineering, hackers, and cyber social
deviance. This article included two research methods the methods included are Case studies
which is demonstrated within the policy paper by Katalin Parti, Tibor Kiss, and Gergely
Koplanyi tested the online aggression-violence scale on a sample of young adults (aged 19-24)
studying in law schools and social work Bachelor of Arts Courses throughout Hungary. The
second study observed in the article was archival research. I will say that this was the research
method used for much of the article as this article mostly uses information from other research
paper. One of the papers used Majid Yar (2018)’s paper entitled “A Failure to Regulate”
discusses the issue of social media platforms failing to regulate illegal content and behavior. He
suggests that a coercive and punitive stance toward media platforms is needed to compel them
into taking more concerted action. One of the social sciences that relate to the article was the
principle of Relativism. The article goes over how the rise of social media has given many
different terrorist groups mainly Al-Qaeda and ISIS the ability to recruit new members and
spread their ideologies. The principle of relativism tells us that change in one system can lead to
changes in another. With the rise of social media and with most social media apps having a large
young user base this gives both terrorist and hate groups the ability to grow in numbers and
promote their ideas. The groups that these terrorist groups target are usually young,
impressionable, and inexperience men making them easy targets and a marginalized group that
should be more protected on the internet. Another social science that is displayed in the article is
Objectivity as throughout the journal we are going over the many different approaches and
viewpoints of Cybercriminology. The article also goes over how having a more interdisciplinary
approach to Cybercriminology we could solve many of the issues in cybercrime. The last social
science that is identify in the article is parsimony. Parsimony is the principle that scientists
should explain things in the simplest form. In the beginning of the article, it explains one of the
research strands in Cybercriminology is the application of general crime related theories—for
example, social control, self-control, lifestyle etc. The contributions that this article presents can
show how the effect of having multiple views of study can benefit the field cybersecurity. While
also contributing other professionals of different views of studies.
