I scored low on the test; social media has never really been a huge issue for especially because I deleted my account a couple years ago when I realized how toxic and manipulative it had become. Social media at its core is a good thing and in theory should be beneficial to society. It is an improvement for society, the issue with it is that it can be used for negative things as well. Addiction can come from peoples need to feel seen, validated, or connected to others. While these are all inherently good traits (connected to society, validation from peers, etc.) they can become unhealthy and toxic as seen with some people. The reason these similar patterns can be found across the world is because people are more alike than they are different and are also prone to similar things. A need for validation and connectedness can become destructive and toxic. The key to fixing this is most likely self-reflection and practicing control.
